Well, today was a bumper day for Elegantly Dressed Wednesday, the Internet’s most stylish meme.
In addition to my paean to Jelly Roll Morton and his 200 bespoke suits, Dave Hill has offered us Tom Jones in some very tight trousers, Bill Dornan has given us the not so Foolish Interruption of Velázquez, Ms Pants has done a touching post on Elegantly Best Friends, DTL has chosen relative and bit-part film actor John Owers, Eleanor at the Terracotta Pot has quite sensibly nominated herself (though we await the pics with shimmering impatience), Puss at the Pole Affair has stripped Dita von Teese bare, and Ms Baroque has given us, appropriately for this time of night, an Elegantly Dressed Bedtime with Babar the Elephant.

What I particularly like about Elegantly Dressed Wednesday is the fact that it gives everyone a chance to craft well-tailored thoughts out of whatever cloth they fancy: what else would bring together a pimping pianist, one of the world’s finest artists, a posturing Welsh guy with a loud voice, children from opposite ends of the globe, a jobbing film actor, the woman who put “tease” back into “striptease”, a hard working student who deserves a rest and a sartorially magnificent pachyderm?
